Welcome Home, Michael!

Get ready, Slavia fans! A familiar face is back in the Red-Whites’ fold. Michael Krmenčík, the 28-year-old striker with a trophy cabinet bursting at the seams, has joined Slavia on a one-year loan deal.

This isn’t just any ordinary return, though. Michael’s journey has taken him from the Czech Republic to Belgium, and now back to his roots. This loan comes with a mandatory option to buy if Slavia qualifies for the prestigious UEFA Champions League this season. Talk about a strong statement of intent!

From Sokolov to the Top of Czech Football

Michael’s story is one of dedication and hard work. It all started in Sokolov, where his passion for football blossomed. He then joined Viktoria Plzeň as a young talent, quickly making his mark on the team.

In the 2010/11 season, a young Michael helped Viktoria achieve the unthinkable – their first-ever Czech league title! It was a historic moment, and Michael played a crucial role.

After a few loan stints in the Czech second division, Michael found his stride at Baník Ostrava and Dukla Praha, further honing his skills.

Shining Bright at Viktoria Plzeň

However, it was back at Viktoria Plzeň where Michael truly shone. He became a pivotal player during the club’s most successful era, helping them achieve great heights.

In 2016, Michael raised another Czech title with Viktoria, adding to his growing collection of trophies. The following season, he was crowned the top scorer of the Czech league, netting an impressive 16 goals. This was followed by a memorable 2018/19 season, where he scored 7 goals in the league and 2 goals in the UEFA Champions League, before a knee injury unfortunately cut his season short.

Conquering Belgium and Greece

Undeterred, Michael returned to the pitch with renewed vigor and continued to score goals for Viktoria Plzeň. This impressive form earned him a move to Club Brugge in early 2020, where he added a Belgian title to his list of achievements.

After a season in Belgium, Michael went on to play for PAOK in Greece. He left his mark on the Greek side, scoring 9 goals in 28 appearances, including the decisive goal in the Greek Cup final against Olympiakos.

Back Home with a Point to Prove

Now, Michael is back in the Czech Republic, ready to pick up where he left off. He’s excited to be back home and eager to work with manager Trpišovský.

“I feel great, I could return home and when Slavia called, it was the only choice for me. I am looking forward to working with manager Trpišovský. I would like to win another title, to be a useful member of the team and I would also like the fans to grow fond of me,” said Krmenčík, expressing his excitement.

With 33 caps and 9 goals for the Czech national team, including 4 starts at EURO 2020, Michael has proven himself on the international stage. In the Czech league, he has scored an impressive 54 goals in 127 games.

Michael’s return to Slavia is a significant moment for the club. It’s a chance for a seasoned, proven striker to lead the line and help Slavia achieve their ambitious goals. With his experience, goalscoring ability, and dedication, Michael is poised to make a big impact on the team. Let’s welcome him home and hope for a season filled with success!
